Rahu is a shadow planet. It is the ascending point where the orbit of the Moon cuts across the ecliptic. It is highly influenced by other planets. According to legend it is head of a demon who cunningly had nectar and later on punished by Lord Vishun’s Sudershan discus. Rahu as well as Ketu are universally malefic planets. They adversely affect all those planets with whom they are conjoined with or are aspecting closely i.e. within 5 degrees of the ascending degree or the house they are posited in. Rahu has similar qualities as that of malefic Saturn. When Rahu is in a position to affect adversely some of the planets and/or houses, use of Rahu mantra is very benefic and favourable. However, inflecting Rahu showers its blessings to the house it occupies. It is personified as diplomat and being a shadowy planet it indicates related jobs such as diplomatic jobs, jobs requires manipulations with facts, It signifies cheats pleasure, seekers insincere and immoral acts operators in foreign lands etc.
Afflicting Rahu causes diseases like phlegm, gastro-enteritis, boils, skin, nervous system, ulcers, spleen, worms high blood pressure, heart trouble, epidemics, psychic, disturbances, hallucinations, hysteria, insanity etc.
Rahu is worshipped in the night on Saturday. Rahu sadhana is more effective and beneficial if performed on Sarvarth siddhi yoga falling on Saturday. Rahu is worshipped with the idol made of lead. The sage of the Mantra is vamdev. The metre is gayatri. The deity is Rahu. Rahu worship is done with the articles of Rahu with the lamp of mustard oil. After sadhana, articles of Rahu like hessonite, lead, blue cloth etc., should be donated. Feeding an elephant is also considered beneficial for propitiation of Rahu. The mantra is to be recited for eighteen thousand times. 1/10 of homa be done with durva leaves and 1/10 of homa is done as tarpan and 1/1 0 of tarpan be done as marzan. After that the devotee should donate articles of Rahu. After realisation of the mantra brahmins are fed with rice.

kyanishit hridayae namah (Touch your heart with your hand), abuoduti sirse swah (Touch your head) sadabradh sikhayee vast (Touch your hairs), sakha kavchayee hum (Touch your right shoulder with left hand and left with right), kyasbchistye netartrayee vaushat (Touch your eyes) vrata astrayee phat (clap, after taking circle around your head)
Dhyana verse
Take blue flowers in your hands and do dhyana as under.
karalvadana kharaghcharam shul varparda I nilsinhasanasch rahusatantr parsasyete
After dhyana perform mental pooja of Rahu as under.
Lam Prithvivyatmak rahuve namah gandham parikalpyami Ham Aakashatmak rahuve namah Pushpam parikalpyami Yam Vyaayatmak rahuve namah dhupam parikalpyami Ram Brahmyatmak rahuve namah dipam parikalpyami Vam Lalatmak rahuve namah navedyam parikalpyami
Now perform poo ja of Rahu by taking rosary in the hand and recite the following mantra for the rosary.
Ma male mahamale sarvshakti sawrupani chaturvargsstavyinayeesatsamanmam sidhidabhav I I
Now start reciting mantra facing towards east direction. Rahu mantra for recital is as under.

Other points to remember: – The articles for donation for Rahu are hessonite, horse, blue cloth, blanket, sesame, oil, iron, and lead. Classics are of the view that those persons who are not in a position of wearing the gems of Rahu which are very costly may wear root of white sandal which is not matured.
